Vocational Education

Vocational education combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills. It encompasses all educational processes aimed at preparing for, entering, and practicing a profession – whether in vocational schools or in training companies.

Vocational Education – Key to Participation in the World of Work and Society

In the 2023/2024 school year, 2.3 million students and trainees attended vocational schools in Germany.

With their diverse and tailored programs, vocational schools address a wide range of target groups. They not only contribute to the professional and social integration of young people and young adults but also provide the economy with qualified specialists who are urgently needed to ensure competitiveness and innovative capacity.

Vocational Education in Continuous Development

Structural changes in the employment system and evolving qualification requirements due to the transformation of work and business processes place high demands on the training and continuing education of skilled workers. The federal states and the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) contribute to the ongoing adaptation and development of the necessary educational processes in vocational schooling. Vocational education is a key to personal development and participation in working life and society. It significantly contributes to individual employability and Germany’s competitiveness.

Vocational Education – Guarantee for System Permeability

Vocational schools, with their differentiated, tailored, and compatible educational programs, make a decisive contribution to permeability and equal opportunities within the education system.
