Individual Support

Individual support aims to provide each child with the best possible learning and development opportunities. In doing so, teachers take into account the different learning prerequisites, interests, and abilities of the students and provide targeted support.

Individual Support

Individual support is a key principle of modern pedagogy. Its aim is to identify and nurture the learning needs and potential of each child. Individual support is essential for successful education and relies on strong collaboration between teachers, parents, and support systems.

To ensure that all students have the best possible future opportunities, individual support is tailored to their talents and abilities. It is as diverse as the learning prerequisites and talents of the students themselves. This can include additional programs for children and adolescents who learn at a faster pace or targeted assistance for those facing learning difficulties of various causes. Teachers can also offer specific learning opportunities for students with particular talents and strong interests.

Language Support

Language support is an important component of education. It helps improve individual educational opportunities and promotes social participation. The close link between language proficiency and academic success has been demonstrated by international school performance studies and the national IQB education trend.

Reading, writing, listening, and speaking form the foundation for successful learning across all educational stages. Mastery of the German language of education is therefore essential for participation in educational processes, equal opportunities, and educational equity, with the goal of full participation in society.

Strengthening language skills is a cross-cutting task and a guiding principle in all subjects. The Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) laid the foundation for language education and language support in schools with its recommendation Strengthening Language Competence in German.

Support for Low-Performing Students

A significant proportion of students in Germany fail to reach the required minimum level of competence in core subjects such as German and mathematics. Supporting low-performing students is a central concern of the education system to ensure equal opportunities and allow every child to realize their potential.

The KMK has agreed to make the support of low-performing students a priority in joint activities. The “Support Strategy for Low-Performing Students” aims to significantly reduce the proportion of students who do not achieve a minimum level of competence by the end of their schooling and therefore fail to graduate.

Support for High-Performing Students

The goal of supporting high-performing students is to enable them to fully develop their potential. These students should receive the best possible education suited to their individual abilities. The KMK has developed the “Support Strategy for High-Performing Students.” Talent-oriented support spans the entire learning biography of a child. The target group includes students who already demonstrate very good observable performance as well as those whose potential needs to be identified and nurtured. In addition to intellectual abilities, musical, athletic, and emotional skills are also considered.
