The importance of teachers for stimulating and high-quality teaching

The influence of teachers, the design of lessons, and interaction with students are key factors for learning success. Teachers therefore play a pivotal role in the education of children and adolescents. They are indispensable actors who, through their work, significantly shape the quality of education in our schools and the individual development of students.

Teachers have a decisive role in promoting the quality of teaching -one that goes far beyond the mere transmission of knowledge. Their responsibilities also include fostering social and emotional skills, creating stimulating learning environments, and supporting equal opportunities. Continuous professional development and societal recognition of the teaching profession are essential for the advancement and success of the education system.

In a joint declaration with education and teachers’ unions, the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) defined the “Tasks of Teachers Today” (the so-called “Bremen Declaration”). Their core task is described as “the targeted and scientifically informed planning, organization, and reflection of teaching and learning processes, as well as their individual assessment and systemic evaluation.”

In connection with the topic of “teachers,” the KMK addresses the following areas in detail:
